The Power of Obsession
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. - Philippians 4:8
Our minds are incredibly powerful and that power is derived by what we feed it. Feed your mind healthy, wholesome, positive thoughts and images, and your mind will drive you to great things.
From a neurological perspective, instead of constantly growing brand-new neurons to handle routines, the brain actually strengthens and rewires the connections between existing brain cells through neuroplasticity. By repeating an action, the brain makes the pathway faster and more efficient, shifting control from active thought areas to automated circuit.
In other words, your brain makes routine actions and thoughts easier to do by building stronger bridges in your brain. This applies to both good and bad habits.
What you’re Obsessed with
will be
what you’re Possessed by
Obsessed: an intense, fixed state of mind
Possessed: controlled by a strong emotion
God designed our brains which is why he inspired Paul to instruct us about what we should be feeding our minds.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Be obsessed with feeding your mind with all things God through Bible study, prayer, and listening during your quiet time.
The more you obsess over these things, the easier your brain will make it to be possessed (controlled) by them as well.
